We are pleased to invite you to join us for a free webinar, ‘Peer Expertise: Perspectives from Europe and Africa’, hosted by the EUCOMS Network in collaboration with GMHPN having speakers from Croatia, Uganda and South Africa. This webinar is part of the ‘Learning from each other webinar series’ and will be held on 28th June at 19:00 CET.
For EUCOMS, peer expertise is one of the principles of community mental health care. Clients are equal partners in the design, delivery, steering and evaluation of a service. ‘Nothing about us without us’. Peer expertise has become a global movement, acknowledging lived experience as a third resource of expertise, next to science and practice.

Get to know the speakers

Ms Sunkel is the Founder/ CEO of the Global Mental Health Peer Network. She is a global voice for the rights of people with mental health conditions/ lived experience. She’s been working in the field of mental health, advocacy and human rights since 2003. She authored several papers from a lived experience perspective. She was a Commissioner on the Lancet Commission on Global Mental Health and Sustainable Development. She Co-Chaired the Lancet Commission on Ending Stigma and Discrimination in Mental Health.
Ms Sunkel had been involved in the review/ drafting of various policies and legislation in South Africa and provided technical assistance to national and international mental health related reports and documents.
She serves on a number of international boards and committees, and previously been on the South African Presidential Working Group on Disability and Ministerial Advisory Committee on Mental Health. Ms Sunkel is the former Principal Coordinator for the Movement for Global Mental Health. She received a number of national and international awards for her work.

President of Madnessociation. Expert by experience, professor of Sociology, employed as a project manager in the association, facilitates the peer support group called “Experts by experience”. Performs workshops and trainings for facilitators of peer support groups as well as consultations for facilitators.

Godfrey is a leader in the global conversation to destigmatize mental health. He is the Founder of Twogere, a community-driven organization that is working to reshape societal perspectives and behaviors surrounding mental health. Additionally, Godfrey is the Principal Coordinator for the Movement for Global Mental Health (MGMH), an international initiative dedicated to improving mental health and well-being worldwide.

Steffen Gunnerud, a peer expert since 2 years in Oslo. He is one of the young emerging leaders in peer expertise. He will open and close the EUCOMS Network Webinar.
